Q: What does yield mean in regards to glass fiber?

A:  Yield is the most common unit of measure for glass fiber in North America. The yield equals yards per pound. For example, if a glass roving is 207 yield, it would take 207 linear yards to equal one pound.

In most other countries, glass fiber is measured in “tex.” The tex is the weight of the roving in grams of 1,000 linear meters. For example, if a glass roving is labeled 2,400 tex, 1,000 linear meters would equal 2,400 grams.

An easy way to convert yield to tex is by dividing 496,055 by the yield. For example, 496,055 divided by 207y equals 2,396 tex.
