New Fire-Retardant Resins

Interplastic Corporation has a new line of fire-retardant vinyl ester resins. CORVE8480N, CORVE8440, CORVE8400 and CORVE8441M-AT have excellent application capabilities and physical properties for markets such as corrosion, transportation, construction and general consumer goods that require the highest fire- and corrosion-resistant products.

CORVE8480N is a non-promoted, fire-resistant, epoxy novolac-based vinyl ester resin. Designed to withstand high temperatures, this resin has excellent corrosion- and fire-retardant performance. It resists many acid, alkali and oxidizing chemical environments in stack lining, tanks, ducts, pipes and fitting applications. CORVE8480N meets many requirements for low HAP content.

CORVE8440 is a non-promoted, fire-resistant, vinyl ester resin. It has an ASTM E84 Tunnel Test rating of less than 75 (Class 2) without additives and less than 25 (Class 1) with the addition of 1.5 percent antimony trioxide. This fire-resistant product is used to make high-strength and corrosion-resistant composites, which are used in such applications as stack lining, tanks, ducts, fittings and marine mufflers.

CORVE8400 is a non-promoted vinyl ester resin. This resin has a flame spread rating for Class 1 of less than 25 per ASTM E84 Tunnel Test without additives. The laminate is clear and easy to inspect for entrapped air, voids and glass-wetting concerns. CORVE8400 meets requirements for low HAP content and is suitable for stack lining, tanks, pipes and process equipment. It is MACT-compliant for corrosion resins (40 percent maximum styrene).

CORVE8441M-AT is a promoted, fire-retardant, vinyl ester resin. This versatile resin contains antimony pentoxide to enhance fire resistance. According to the ASTM E84 Tunnel Test, it has a Class 1 flame spread rating of less than 25 without further additives. This product is corrosion-resistant and is used in customer applications in the corrosion, transportation, construction and fire-resistant engineered products markets. Easily applied in spray-up, hand lay-up and filament winding operations.

Interplastic Corporation is a specialty chemical company with its headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota. Its Thermoset Resins Division focuses on the production and distribution of unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester resins, gel coats and colorants for the composites and cast polymer industries. The Molding Products Division is a leader in the production of sheet molding compounds and other thermoset molding materials.
