PLEXUS

New 1:1 Adhesives Offer Simplified Mixing/Dispensing and Longer Open

Three Plexus® structural adhesives produce exceptionally strong yet flexible bonds on composites and offer medium to long working times for large assemblies. They require little or no surface preparation and cure at room temperature to tough, durable bonds that withstand service temperatures of minus 40 degrees to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Two-part structural methacrylates dispensed manually or with standard meter-mix equipment, MA530, MA560-1 and MA590 are 100 percent reactive, non-sagging gels recommended for joining composite assemblies, ABS, acrylics, FRP, gelcoats, polyesters (including DCPD modified), PVC, styrenics and vinyl esters. They are ideal for boats, trucks, buses, architectural ornamentation, wind turbine blades and composite bridges and decks.

MA530 has a working time of 30 to 40 minutes and fills gaps up to seven-tenths of an inch. A three-hundredths of an inch bond line achieves approximately 75 percent of its ultimate shear strength in 90 to 160 minutes at 74 degrees Fahrenheit, according to preliminary testing data. It is available in ready-to-use 400-ml cartridges, five-gallon pails and 50-gallon drums.

MA560-1 has a longer working time (55 to 70 minutes) and fills gaps up to one inch. It is recommended for large structures as well as small-part assembly where fewer workers are required. Fixture time for a three-hundredths of an inch bond line is 220 to 240 minutes at 74 degrees Fahrenheit. This adhesive is also recommended for certain metals and many other substrates. It is available in ready-to-use 400-ml cartridges, five-gallon pails and 50-gallon drums.

MA590, with a very long working time of 90 to 105 minutes, was formulated for building large fiberglass boats but, of course, is acceptable for other applications. A three-hundredths of an inch bond line achieves approximately 75 percent of its ultimate shear strength in 180 to 240 minutes at 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Like MA560-1, this adhesive fills gaps up to one inch and is recommended for certain metals in addition to many other substrates. It is available in ready-to-use 400-ml cartridges, five-gallon pails and 50-gallon drums.

Plexus has more than 30 years of experience in the design, development and production of methacrylate bonding agents. Certified by Lloyd’s of London, Det Norske Veritas, Icelandic and the American Bureau of Shipping, the company’s products are widely used in the marine, automotive, architectural, infrastructure, transportation, construction and manufacturing industries. They are also GREENGUARD-certified for indoor air safety.

R.J. Marshall

New Spray Granite Colors for the Pool and Spa Industry

The new line of Spray Granite Advantage for Pools (SGP) recently introduced by The R.J. Marshall Company is a beautiful and economical option for pool and spa surfaces. Using SGP will provide water color options such as deep blues to sky blues or teals. The new granite effect material is available in 12 new colors. Many of them contain a reflective particle for more shimmer.

The technology behind the SGP materials is superior in chemistry and design, resulting in unsurpassed quality and long-term durability. SGP products have an engineered particle size distribution, with the focus on building opacity in the thinnest layer practical to yield the best economics. The thermoset granules used in the SGP products are made with NPG-ISO resin. This resin yields a high heat distortion temperature, chemical resistance and resistance to water permeation. Spray Granite Advantage for Pools is also flame-retardant, chemical- and stain-resistant, heat-resistant and UV-stable.
